A shootout in Southwest Miami- Dade resulted in one officer being shot and the suspect killed.
On Saturday around 1:30 am police were responding to a sighting of a fugitive wanted from North Carolina for an officer involved shooting.
Miami-Dade Homicide task force along with U.S. Marshals responded to the scene. The suspect had barricaded himself in his home and refused to leave.
After hours of negotiations police made their way into the home and there was a gunfire exchange. An officer with the Special Response Team was hit by the suspect in his tactical vest.
Police returned fire hitting the suspect and killing him.
“After long negotiations and failed attempts for the subject to surrender, an entry was made, at which time there was an exchange of gunfire with the subject. The subject struck one of our SRT officers in his tactical vest. Thank goodness that he’s OK. It did not penetrate his skin, and the subject was deceased on the scene.”

The incident is still being investigated and police have not released the name of the injured officer or the name of the suspect.
