The Minneapolis Police Department is seeing a record number of officers leaving the department after four of it’s officers have been charged with the death of George Floyd.
Many Minneapolis police officers are struggling to do their job in fear of facing ramifications for any questionable interactions. Almost 200 officers have filed papers to leave as a result of PTSD and 65 officers have already left the force. In addition many officers have recently taken leave.
Morale with the department is at all time low as officers feel the lack of support from city officials.
“It’s almost like a nuclear bomb hit the city, and the people who didn’t perish are standing around. I’m still surprised that we’ve got cops showing up to work, to be honest.”
– Officer Rich Walker Sr
Many police departments across the county are experiencing record numbers of officers leaving as city leaders move to defund the police in response to Black Lives Matter protesters.
