Human Trafficking survivors along with high ranking government officials gathered at the White House on Friday as President Donald Trump signed an executive order on combating human trafficking.
Along with the executive order President Trump will create a new position to focus solely on the issue of human trafficking. The new position will be part of the Domestic Policy Counsel. At this time no candidate has been identified.
The White House Summit on Human Trafficking on Friday marked the 20 year anniversary of federal legislation to help combat human trafficking. During the event President Trump praised the passion of the advocates and supporters.

Bella Hounakey, a human trafficking survivor, talked about her accomplishments since being rescued from human trafficking. She has become a US citizen and graduated college. She is also a member of the U.S. Advisory Council on Human Trafficking.
In addition to the executive order creating a new position to focus solely on human trafficking, the order will also expand prevention education programs, create housing opportunities for survivors. and work to remove child sexual abuse content from the internet.
However despite all the efforts from the White House to combat human trafficking, Eric Schwartz from Refugees International has stated that their has been an increase in the denials of specials visas that allow trafficking victims to legalize their status, access services and seek punishment for their abuser.
“The administration has been especially dismissive of claims by women and children who have been trafficked over the U.S. southern border. This terrible approach also discourages victims from coming out of the shadows and applying for visas.”

The White House does continue to focus on human trafficking within our domestic borders. Ivanka Trump, the presidents daughter has taken this issue under her wing. She was just recently in Atlanta touring housing for trafficking victims.
